Dr. Christopher Bower, BSc, FRCP

Dr. Bower specialises in surgical and non-surgical treatment of skin cancer. He is Consultant Dermatologist at the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Trust Hospital and Programme Director for Dermatology training in Devon and Cornwall.

Dr. Bower graduated from Edinburgh University (MB ChB) with additional BSc (Hons) in pharmacology. He spent time training in both medicine and surgery at Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham, and the Royal Brisbane Hospital, Brisbane. He completed dermatology training at the Bristol Dermatology Centre before taking up the post of Consultant Dermatologist at the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Trust Hospital in October 2001.

Dr. Bower’s key clinical interests lie in the prevention and surgical and non-surgical treatment of skin cancer, particularly non-melanoma skin cancer (basal cell carcinomas and squamous cell carcinomas). He set up the photodynamic therapy treatment service for skin cancer at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

Dr. Bower is committed to education and is Director for the Devon and Cornwall Dermatology training programme. He is an Honorary Lecturer at the Peninsula Medical School with whom he has numerous additional roles. As College Tutor for the Royal College of Physicians he organises post graduate training at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

Dr. Bower is a Fellow at the Royal College of Physicians, a member of the British Association of Dermatologists, a member of the British Society of Dermatological Surgeons and an Honorary Lifetime Member of the Primary Care Dermatology Society. He lectures and teaches nationally and internationally, principally in the area of skin cancer diagnosis and treatment.

For appointments regarding, general dermatology, skin cancer and allergy, a GP referral letter is preferred. A consultation with your GP is not always necessary to obtain this.

For appointments regarding mole checks and cosmetic concerns of the skin, IPL treatments, microsclerotherapy and follow-up consultations, a GP letter is not normally required.
